GET the sun cream at the ready as the Black Country and North Worcestershire is today going to experience the hottest day of the year so far.

It'll be a very hot day with largely clear skies and light southerly winds, with temperatures this morning around 28°C.

Into this afternoon and some patchy high cloud will arrive from the west, but temperatures will remain very high at about 31°C, even rising to 34°C in some parts.

It is set to be a very warm and humid night, dry for most, although some heavy, thundery showers may break out towards the north of the region towards dawn, with minimum temperatures a warm 19°C.

A yellow weather warning has been put out by the Met Office for the region due to the expectation of thunderstorms building in the later hours of today and tomorrow due to the very warm weather.

The warning states: “Very warm, moist air is spreading north and northeast across the western side of the UK is expected to produce thunderstorms later on Tuesday, then transfer eastwards during Wednesday. Rainfall will be very variable, and the extent of thunderstorms is uncertain, but some places could see around 30 mm in an hour and more than 50 mm in a few hours.”
