TRAVELLERS set up camp in Milking Bank late last night (Thursday).

Caravans parked up on Donkey Pool on Monday after locks on both the gate and height barriers at the entrance to the reserve were broken.

Fencing and bushes were also hacked down to allow additional access across the playing fields.

Dudley Council had started legal action to move them on but were made aware last night that the group had moved to Milking Bank.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: "Our officers are visiting the site today so that we can begin the legal process to remove them.

"We expect to have a court date through in a matter of days. The police are also monitoring the situation.

“I can assure people we are doing everything we can to move the travellers on as quickly as possible.

“While we do our best to maintain the security of the borough's green spaces for the benefit of all residents, we are unable to predict where travellers may next choose to settle.

"Early indications can include damage to fencing and gates to allow access, and we would encourage people who witness such incidents to report them to Dudley Council Plus so that we can put measures in place to maintain the security of open space areas."
