THE clock was turned back to the 1940s at a Brierley Hill retirement court as residents and staff celebrated its 30th anniversary.
Like a scene from Goodnight Sweetheart, Myles Court was decked out in 1940s nostalgia, complete with costumes, refreshments and entertainment from singing duo The Land Girls.
The event marked the 30th anniversary of the John Street housing scheme after it was officially opened by Robert Scaife, the then national chairman of the Royal British Legion, on September 21, 1986.
Housing & Care 21, a not-for-profit provider of housing and care services for older people which started out as the Royal British Legion housing association, manages the court.
Helen Judge, manager said: “It was a wonderful day. It was lovely to see everyone dressed in their 40’s finery, and we particularly enjoyed the entertainment.”
Age UK Dudley recently opened a new centre at Myles Court, offering companionship, hot meals and activities to older people in the community, with people who use the service joining in with the anniversary celebrations.
