NOMINATIONS for the Dudley Youth Awards – which celebrate the achievements of young people across the borough – are now open.

Now in its 13th year, the event, organised by Dudley Youth Council - in conjunction with Dudley Council’s Youth Service - sees people aged between 11 and 19 (or up to 25 for those with a disability) awarded in a number of categories.

Taking place on Friday, March 3 2017, the awards will celebrate youngsters’ success in seven areas including creative arts, sport, contribution to school or further education and environmental.

There are also two inspiration awards for extraordinary young people, ‘overcoming adversity’, which recognises commitment, positivity and courage, and the ‘inspiring others’ rewards commitment, compassion and the very best in a role model, as well as one group award for community, charity and voluntary work which recognises young people who have made a joint impact on the lives of others in their local community.

The Mary Growcott Award is a final category for inspirational adults. This is for people who have made a real difference to the lives of young people who they work with and nominations must be made by young people.

Councillor Ian Cooper, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “The Dudley Youth Awards celebrate the dedication and kindness of inspirational young people from all across Dudley borough and put a spotlight on the great work that can sometimes go unnoticed.

“I would ask people in the community to come forward and make a nomination for that amazing young person or group who has made a difference to them so that we can thank them for all they do.”

Nominations are open until Friday (December 2) and can be made by completing the online form found on Dudley Council’s website at www.dudley.gov.uk/youthawards, or nomination forms can be requested by calling Dudley Youth Service on 01384 815173.
