BUDDING young coders who want to learn how to make games, animations and create websites from scratch, are being invited to a weekly code club.

Coding is now on the curriculum for Key Stage 2 and Brierley Hill Library is holding a class each week, between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, to help those with a natural flair for the subject to take their coding to new levels.

The club, following on from the success of a digital festival held at Halesowen Library last month which was attended by more than 600 people, also offers help, encouragement and support to those who are just learning this skill.

Visitors to the festival learnt how to create animations and games in code, made light up robot cards with LEDs and watched demonstrations of 3D printers.

Brierley Hill coding club is the only one left in the borough which still has spaces, with the Halesowen and Stourbridge clubs already fully booked, while Dudley Council is on the hunt for volunteer coders who can teach youngsters the skills.

Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member for libraries, said: “Our coding clubs are always massively popular, there seems to be a real appetite for coding and the clubs help to build upon the skills young people are learning in the classroom.

“We have been overwhelmed by the success of our recent digital festival and the enthusiasm for coding, which is why we are also looking for new volunteer coders.

“It’s a great opportunity to share a passion for coding with the next generation.”
