BRIERLEY Hill kids joined forces with St Thomas's Community Network to help clear wasteland for a community garden.
The youngsters from the Juniper training programme at the Waterfront offered a helping hand after hearing a talk from Ian Mercer, a community co-ordinator at the network.
Nathan Frith, Katie Kendrick, Rosie Wood, Richard Evans and Sadia Sultan took part in the clean up at the network's base in Beechwood Road, Dudley, on Friday June 22.
Juniper training officer Lisa George said: "The students worked all day in the rain digging and clearing rubble for the area to be landscaped. It was extremely strenuous work but thoroughly enjoyed by all taking part.
"We all got a sense of community spirit and a great deal of pride. The students worked under supervision using equipment they had never touched before and therefore developing personal skills in the process as well as team leadership."
The youngsters have to take part in a community event as part of their training.
Juniper Training delivers education and employment skills to people aged 16 to 18.
