MPs Gavin Williamson and Mike Wood say they are “surprised” and “saddened” that police will not be reopening the investigation into the unsolved murder of Stourbridge newspaper boy Carl Bridgewater.

South Staffordshire MP Mr Williamson and Dudley South MP Mr Wood had urged the then Home Secretary Theresa May, shortly before she became Prime Minister, to ask Staffordshire Police to look again at the 1978 murder case in light of explosive revelations made in Channel 4 documentary Interview with a Murderer.

But nine months on - the force has confirmed there will be no new investigation into the killing of 13-year-old Carl who was shot at Yew Tree Farm, near Wordsley, while delivering newspapers.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Mohammed Hanif, paid tribute to volunteers, businesses and community leaders at this year's Mayor’s Ball and Civic Awards.

Winners were presented with handcrafted glass and a certificate in recognition of their work in one of seven categories.

Chairman of Dudley Private Hire and Taxi Association, Shaz Saleem, won the coveted Mayor’s Award after receiving the most votes in an online poll for his work promoting taxi safety and charity fundraising.

Two illegal immigrants involved in running an bootleg tobacco factory in Halesowen have both been put behind bars for two years eight months.

Investigators found 3,000 kilos of tobacco being prepared inside the Malt Hill Lane warehouse that would have avoided £600,000 worth of duty to the Government.

The illegal tobacco was being lined up for distribution at a cut price at a number of outlets in the Midlands, said Nigel Stelling prosecuting.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man allegedly indecently exposed himself while looking at children in a Catshill play park.

The incident happened near the Lingfield Walk playground between 11.30am and 12.03pm yesterday (Sunday March 26).

Police have named a 55-year-old Kidderminster man who died in hospital at the weekend.

West Mercia Police have named the man as Mark Beresford and are treating his death as "unexplained". 

Paramedics attended a property in Offmore Road, at around 8.30pm on Friday (March 24) where Mark was found with serious head injuries. 

He died in hospital on Saturday (March 25).

Bromsgrove Against Cuts supporters took to the streets of Redditch campaigning with It's Our NHS Worcestershire and the family and friends of Callum Cartlidge, the Redditch Advertiser has reported.

Campaigners protested outside a meeting of NHS Redditch and Bromsgrove CCG in Bromsgrove to demand a halt to a consultation on Worcestershire's healthcare, which would move some hospital services from Redditch to Worcester.

Their call came following the death of Callum, who lived just two minutes from the Alexandra Hospital but was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.
