THE top television moments from BBC shows most valued by licence fee payers have been revealed.

The dancing bears from Planet Earth II topped the list of the memorable television moments people tweeted as "worth the licence fee".

The phrase was used 5,000 times in the past year to recognise moments viewers appreciated, according to the data gathered by TV Licensing during the past year.

Noteworthy scenes from Strictly Come Dancing made the list, including Ed Balls’ salsa routine to Gangnam Style, and Aidan Turner’s “spellbinding” performance in Poldark.

Mark Whitehouse, spokesperson for TV Licensing in the West Midlands, said: “This shows just how much viewers value BBC programmes – whether it’s magic moments on Planet Earth II or the sparkle of Strictly."

Among the top 10 programmes worth the licence fee in the past year were the Rio Olympics coverage, Line of Duty, Great British Bake Off, Peaky Blinders and Match of the Day.

According to TV Licensing research conducted from October to December last year, when asked about the value of the licence fee, 50 per cent of respondents said tit represented good value for money, up from 44 per cent in a previous survey.

A colour TV Licence currently costs £147 and is required by anyone watching or recording TV programmes as they are shown on TV - around 40p per day.
