A MAN is being treated at a major trauma centre after he was hit by a lorry on a busy Brierley Hill road.
Emergency services were called to Pedmore Road near Merry Hill Shopping Centre at 2.33pm this afternoon (Thursday), following reports that a pedestrian had been in collision with a HGV.
An ambulance arrived within six minutes of the first of four 999 calls and a second ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford arrived soon after, with a trauma doctor on board.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival, the man who was estimated to be in his 20s or 30s, was lying in the road.
“He was initially have said to have been unconscious but had started to come around.
“He was immobilised and had a pelvic binder was fitted. Due to the nature of his injuries, the doctor decided to anaesthetise him."
Despite an air ambulance attending, the man was taken on blue lights via land ambulance to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The aircrew travelled with the ambulance so advanced treatment could continue.
