A DUDLEY woman has picked up a prestigious academic award.
Dr Sarah Mills received the Gill Memorial Award from the Royal Geographical Society in recognition of her ‘outstanding early career research in cultural geography’.
The 31-year-old, who attended Milking Bank Primary School and Bishop Milner Secondary School, now works at Loughborough University as a senior lecturer.
Her research at the university explores the geographies of youth citizenship, informal education and volunteering.
She has published widely across these themes, co-edited two books, and held two prestigious Economic and Social Research Council Fellowships.
Speaking about the award, Dr Mills, who now lives in Loughborough, said: “I am overwhelmed by this news and so grateful to the Royal Geographical Society for this award.
"I owe a huge thanks to colleagues and mentors, but most of all to my family and friends for their love and support.”
