TWO Dudley teenagers have been shortlisted for a top award after they helped the emergency services find a missing pregnant teenager.

Louis Price and Jack Goodman were walking through Wrens Nest Nature Reserve in September when they stumbled across the 15-year-old girl, who was believed to be suicidal.

“We were doing something for our homework when we came across someone who was in need of help," said Louis, aged 13.

"She was on the ground and we saw blood on her arm. She was in an unresponsive state and found it hard to talk.

"We gave her some water. She’d been there since 8am and we found her about 4pm."

The boys immediately called the police and offered to meet officers at the entrance.

They then helped guide the officers across the wet shrubland in fading light  so the girl could be located as soon as possible.

The distressed teenager was found at one of the highest points of the nature reserve and was in need of medical treatment.

The kind pair also offered to meet paramedics at the entrance so no-one got lost and there was no delay in offering her assistance on the cold evening.

Their actions have led to them being nominated for a gong in this year's West Midlands Outstanding Citizens' Awards, which if won, would take pride of place next to the Chief Constable's Young Persons Award they were given in May.

Speaking of being up for the Outstanding Young Citizen Award, Louis said: “We’ve told quite a few of our friends at school.

"We’re proud of what we did but we’re proud for our families too”.

The teenagers were nominated by PCSO Faye Cartright of Dudley Police, who said: "The boys showed maturity beyond their years.

"Not only did they recognise that someone was in distress and contact the emergency services, they assisted officers and ambulance services in getting medical attention to a very vulnerable member of society very swiftly.

"Their actions were greatly appreciated and are worthy of recognition.”

David Jamieson, West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, added: "This award is our chance to shine the spotlight on some outstanding young people.

"Youngsters who have shown exceptional judgement and who have stepped up when faced with a crisis situation. It’s our opportunity to say thank you to them.”
