THOUSANDS of people enjoyed all the fun of the fair in Brierley Hill this weekend.

The Brier Fair was the first major Black Country Festival event to be held in the town centre.

A funfair, which ran along High Street, Pearson Street and into the Moor Shopping Centre, gave fun seekers of all ages the chance to spin, rise, plummet, splash, dig and bump, in style.

The dodgems were also a big hit and visitors were able to enjoy street entertainment, art and craft activities and live acts.

Frank Chamberlain, caretaker at Brierley Hill Market Hall, said Saturday's event had brought in lots of "new and old faces".

He said the event was a huge success, adding: "All I have heard is positive feedback. There must have been well over a thousand people walking around the town throughout the day."

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: “This is the first time that Brierley Hill town centre has hosted a Black Country Festival event and it has been a triumph.

"It was lovely to watch people come together to enjoy this community event.

“In particular I would like to thank businesses and stakeholders in Brierley Hill who joined forces to make sure that this event was a success.”
