A BRIERLEY Hill pub that is quackers about fundraising is set to host a charity duck race.

The Tenth Lock has 400 rubber ducks ready to race downstream to raise funds for Mary Stevens Hospice.

They will be thrown into the canal at 3pm on Sunday, August 6 and float along to the finish line at the Delph Road pub.

Ducks cost £3 each - the equivalent cost of a meal for a patient at the Stourbridge hospice.

They can be bought at the pub, from Canalside Tackle in Delph Road - the event sponsor - or online at www.marystevenshospice.co.uk/event/black-country-duck-race.

In addition to the race, the pub will also be running a free family fun day from 12 noon to rake in more cash for the charity.

It will include stalls, a magician, an outside bar and karaoke.

Amanda Bowen, deputy head of fundraising and lottery at the Mary Stevens Hospice Group said: "It gives a brand new definition to the term 'wacky races', doesn’t it?

"The whole day is going to be such a fantastic community event, and we know the race itself is going to be a little bit special.

"We're so grateful to The Tenth Lock and Canalside Tackle for making it possible, and we can't wait to see people lining the banks of the canal cheering their ducks home to victory.”

Chere Griffin, pub manager, added: “We can't wait to see it - it's going to be such a spectacle and let's hope we raise loads of money for the fantastic work of the hospice and the families they support.”
