A SINGING group is being launched in Sedgley for people with dementia.

The free monthly Singing by Heart sessions, run by The Salvation Army, will start on September 25.

Research has shown that music can be therapeutic for dementia sufferers and those attending the sing-a-long sessions will be invited to join in with renditions of classics such as Bring Me Sunshine and well-known hymns, including Give Me Joy In My Heart.

The group will meet at All Saints Church Hall, Vicar Street, from 2pm to 3.30pm on the last Monday of each month.

A Dementia Friends event will also be held at the church hall on September 12 for people who would like to learn more about what it is like to live with the condition.

The free one-hour information session will start at 7pm.
