THE family of missing Stourbridge man Matthew Gill say they have been “absolutely overwhelmed” by the support they’ve received from people as efforts to find him continue.

Matthew, aged 43, known as Liggy, was last seen at around 9am on Friday October 6 - nearly two weeks ago - and despite extensive searches for him there have been no confirmed sightings.

He is believed to have left his home, without his wallet, in his silver coloured Smart Roadster Brabus car which has since been recovered from the car park of Petzone off the A449 at Prestwood, near Stourton, and he is thought to have been wearing a blue Superdry T-shirt.

Worried friends, relatives and members of the public have been doing all they can to help boost the efforts of search and rescue teams who have been combing woodland close to where Matthew’s car was found.

His worried cousin Louise Flanagan, from Stourbridge, said friends and relatives have been trawling woods and country paths and she added: “We’ve even been through brambles and all sorts.”

She said around 15,000 posters have been printed free of charge by kind-hearted printing companies and she added: "We’re so grateful to them – they’ve helped us so much."

Speaking on behalf of Matthew's family, Louise said relatives and friends have just been "hoping and waiting" anxiously for news and she added: “It’s a very difficult time but we're absolutely overwhelmed by the response from the public, from volunteers and the donations we’ve had."

She said after scouring the Kinver and Prestwood areas the search was this week being widened to the Kidderminster area as Matthew worked in the town at B&Q as part of the management team.

He had been due to start his shift at midday on the Friday that he vanished. Since then he has not contacted his partner and his phone has been switched off.

Louise, a driving instructor, said prior to his disappearance Matthew’s behaviour had been "absolutely normal" and she said his partner of three years, Annette Woodhouse, had left him in bed as she went to work and "kissed him goodbye as normal".

She told the News there was "no reason to suspect anything" out of the ordinary might occur.

DC Gail Cartridge, from West Midlands Police's Locate team, said police were "very concerned about Matthew" and his disappearance was "completely out of character”.

Matthew is described as white, five feet 10 inches tall, of medium build and with short cropped hair.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Locate team on 01902 649150 or the charity Missing People on 116 000.
