PLANS to get a permanent tribute installed on the Woodsetton War Memorial are gathering pace.
The new tribute - a steel wreath, set on stone - will mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.
The wreath has been designed by Black Country artist Edward Cartwright and the stone for the project will be supplied by Co-operative Memorials, who helped to move the memorial from outside the Mount Tabor Church on Sedgley Road to its current location on the corner of Sedgley Road and Parkes Hall Road.
Woodsetton councillor Keiran Casey said: 'We must never forget the sacrifices that local people have made for our freedom.
"We got the memorial moved so that we could organise a proper service of remembrance for local people to pay their respects and it was fantastic to see so many local people attend the service on Remembrance Sunday this year.
"Next year marks the 100 year anniversary since the end of the First World War and we want to get a permanent tribute installed marking the centenary and honouring those who have paid he ultimate sacrifice for our freedom."
The project is being supported by Woodsetton Charitable Trust and a crowdfunding page has been set up to try and raise the £1,200 needed for the project.
