Vladimir Putin has rolled to a crushing re-election victory for six more years as Russia’s president.

He told cheering supporters in a triumphant but brief speech that “we are bound for success”.

The election came amid escalating tensions with the West as Moscow was blamed for the nerve-agent poisoning this month of a former Russian double agent in Salisbury.

Two people have been injured in another explosion in Austin, Texas.

The incident on Sunday night comes after three package bombs detonated earlier this month in other areas of the city, killing two people and injuring two others.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Management Services reported that an explosion in the Texas capital’s southwest injured two men in their 20s.

A smuggling boat has sunk off a Greek island, killing at least 16 migrants including children.

A search and rescue operation is under way to find two others believed missing.

The wooden boat was believed to have been carrying around 21 people when it sank for reasons that were not immediately clear off the coast of the eastern Aegean island of Agathonisi, the Greek coast guard said.

Three people – two women and one man – managed to swim to the island and alert authorities.
