AN extra £164,000 will be spent tackling potholes across the borough that have been caused by the recent severe weather.

The snow and ice has taken its toll on the roads and earlier this year, Dudley Council was given £238,000 to help deal with the problem.

Now, the Government has announced an extra £164,000 will be made available to the authority.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley's cabinet member for environmental services, said: “The snow and ice we have had in recent weeks has really hit our roads hard – that’s something we cannot avoid – but this extra money will go a long way in helping us deal with the potholes and other road defects."

Cllr Shakespeare (pictured above) continued: “Our crews are working hard to identify areas and respond to reports, and I would like to thank motorists for bearing with us.”

The latest funding is part of an £844,000 pot of cash from the Department for Transport, paid to the West Midlands Combined Authority for the region.
