POLICE have lost tabs on nearly 500 registered sex offenders in Britain, according to a report.

The missing include rapists and paedophiles, including some who disappeared more than a decade ago, according to a Sky News investigation.

Figures released by 41 police forces show the number of convicted sex offenders whose whereabouts are unknown is 485, a jump of more than 20 per cent in the last three years.

A DRUG user who raped and murdered a pensioner in a brutal attack at her home will be sentenced by a High Court judge today.

Craig Keogh, 26, was convicted on Monday of killing 72-year-old Jane Hings after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court heard he twice raped the pensioner before smothering her with a pillow.

Mrs Hings was found dead in her bungalow by her carers, several hours after Keogh removed wedding and engagement rings and a crucifix from her body following the “utterly terrifying” sexual assault.

Keogh will be sentenced on Tuesday afternoon by Mr Justice Jeremy Baker.

GIRLS who start using social media younger tend to be unhappier as they progress through their teens, new research has shown.

Social media seems to have a greater impact on the well-being of girls, scientists at the University of Essex and University College London found.

Girls who spent an hour or more on social media by the age of 10 showed lower well-being by the time they reached 15.
