GUNSHOTS were reportedly fired in Netherton last night (Saturday).

Police descended on Lodge Crescent just after ‪8pm‬ following several reports that people armed with batons were attacking the occupants of a car.

Further reports were received of gunshots and sightings of a firearm.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said this was believed to be in retaliation to an incident earlier in the evening where a 36-year-old woman had been assaulted with a metal bar, resulting in a minor head injury.

A 39-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody.

Police patrols were increased in the area overnight and this morning (Sunday), two men, aged 30 and 33, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

The 33-year-old had sustained a broken ankle and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on ‪0800 555 111‬.
