DUDLEY Zoo is celebrating after a record-breaking weekend which saw the attraction's highest May Bank Holiday visitor numbers for 20 years.
During the three-day holiday, when the Castle Hill attraction hosted their annual fundraising Walk on the Wild Side sponsored walk, an amazing 12,187 people went through the turnstiles.
The busiest day was the Bank Holiday Monday (May 7) when the site was buzzing with more than 5,350 visitors.
Zoo director, Derek Grove, said: “It was wonderful to have so many people visiting us over the Bank Holiday weekend and enjoying our sponsored walk, the weather, our talks, awareness event for macaques and of course our collection of amazing animals.
“There was a terrific atmosphere on site throughout the extended weekend and our staff did a great job making sure everyone had a great day out.”
It was the fifth year of our Walk on the Wild Side which saw people of all ages dress up and take part in a 5km sponsored stroll around the hillside site, with chance to see plenty of our endangered animals along the route.
This year money raised will be shared equally between our own in-situ conservation projects and WildCats Conservation Alliance, a charity which supports wild tigers and Amur leopards.
