WEST Midlands Mayor Andy Street is set to host a range of events across Dudley as part of his first community weekend.

People are being invited to celebrate their community as part of the seven borough events which will take place on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.

These including a barbecue at Riverside House in Stourbridge, a street party in Wolverhampton Street in Dudley as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations for Revival Fires and a huge community clear-up organised by the African Caribbean Community Network.

Stourbridge-based Friends of Greenfield Park will be hosting a huge get-together while there will be two events in Brierley Hill, a summer fair at Pens Meadow Home School Association and an open day and picnic at the Black Country Radio studios.

Additionally, CHADD (Churches Housing Association of Dudley and District) will be hosting a barbecue aimed at supporting young people at risk of homelessness in Halesowen.

The ‘Mayor’s Community Weekend’ has been made possible following £60,000 of National Lottery funding awarded by the Big Lottery Fund, as part of a new partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Mr Street said: “Community groups in Dudley have been fantastic in getting involved in this event and I am delighted to see a variety of different events in every part of the borough taking place over the weekend.

“The whole idea of the Community Weekend is to encourage greater pride in the many diverse communities across our region.

“This might be a celebration of the work of a particular group or it might be a community clear up, but each event in different ways contributes to the sense of pride and the community spirit in our region.

“Thank you to everybody who is working to put on events, thank you to the Big Lottery Fund for their support and I hope to see as many of you as possible over the weekend.”
