BUDDING young playwrights are once again being invited to submit their scripts for the chance to have their work performed by Stourbridge Theatre Company.

Following on from the success of its 2017 edition, the amateur dramatic group is running its Play Writing Competition again in 2018, which sees the selected winners also receive a cash prize of £250.

Last year saw Worcester Sixth Form College student Freddie Lockett, from Droitwich, crowned the winner for his play ‘A Sparrow, a Crow and a Canary’.

But entries were so good that the group awarded a second prize to Faye Joule for her play ‘Thou Shall Not Sin’.

This year there will be two age groups, students up to school year 11 and students in school year 12 up to 25 years of age, with the cash prize awarded to the winner of each age group.

To take part in the competition, entrants must live within 20 miles of Stourbridge Town Hall, while scripts must be original work and written in traditional dialogue form – improvisations are not acceptable.

The plays must last at least 20 minutes and no more than 35 minutes, include a cast of between two and five characters, and the scripts must include a brief resume of each character.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday, July 31, and for more information about how to enter, including full terms and conditions, visit www.stourbridgetheatre.co.uk.

Stourbridge Theatre Company’s next production at Stourbridge Town Hall will be ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ between from Thursday, September 6, and Saturday, September 8.
