A DUDLEY community centre could be under threat unless more volunteers get on board to help run it, a councillor has warned.

Councillor Steve Waltho described the Dudley Council owned facility in Green Park as a "valuable community asset" but fears it could be at risk unless more people step forward to help.

The centre is run by the Friends of Green Park, however over the years, numbers have dwindled to a "skeleton crew".

Cllr Waltho said: "Sadly this really is a 'use it or lose it' warning that if more volunteers do not come forward then we really have no idea of its future fate.

"It is a modern facility with meeting room, kitchen and excellent sports changing rooms with a football pitch and multi-use games area, which can be hired by local organisations or individuals at subsidised rates in a highly deprived area of our borough.

"To lose it would be a tragedy so we hope the public will respond as we've done all we can, including a leaflet drop across the area."

Fundraisers and general helpers are needed and various committee positions need to be filled.

Potential volunteers are invited to attend the Friends of Green Park's AGM at 6pm tomorrow (Thursday, June 28) to find out more.

Football fans have been assured that the meeting will be finished before the England match kicks off at 7pm.

Anyone who cannot attend the meeting but would still like to help should call Cllr Waltho on 07703308463.
