A FISH-filleting foursome are gutted when a 'sold out' sign signals the end of their day at the races before it even started.

But lady luck seems to be on their side as they find a purse with four tickets stashed inside.

With the stolen tickets in hand, the factory girls leg it into Wolverhampton Racecourse to place their bets. But will they hit the jackpot?

To find out, you'll have to head to Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and watch its production of Ladies' Day.

The laugh-out-loud comedy is a winning favourite thanks to a cracking cast and several live performances from seventies crooner Tony Christie.

It felt like we were under starters orders for the first 20 or so minutes - about the time it took me to understand what actress Emma Rigby was saying due to the shaky Black Country accent - but the show soon gathered pace and I found myself rooting for all four characters, hoping they got their happy ending.

For me, former EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison stole the show as Jan - especially during a scene where she'd overdone it on the champers (we've all been there!).

She has fantastic comic timing and at times her facial expressions alone were enough to have the audience in stitches.

Deena Payne was also fantastic, I warmed to her character Pearl straight away and she handled some particularly moving scenes very well.

Tony Christie's number one fan Linda was brilliantly portrayed by Roisin O’Neill and one of my favourite scenes was where she got to dance next to her idol - I've never seen such expressions of crazed joy before!

Accent issues aside, Emma Rigby gave an incredibly energetic performance as fame-seeker Shelley and managed to bring a lot of depth to the character.

Finally, a special mention must go to Sean McKenzie, who held down six roles with ease!

The odds are that you'll enjoy this show so grab your tickets by calling 01902 42 92 12 or online at grandtheatre.co.uk.

Ladies' Day runs until Saturday, July 28.
