PEOPLE can compete for a £100 prize when the Black Country Duck Race returns next month.

The Tenth Lock pub in Brierley Hill will host the event from noon on Sunday, August 5.

Rubber ducks will race down the canal to the finish line to raise cash for Mary Stevens Hospice.

The ducks are available to buy for £3 per duck and can be bought at the pub, online at www.marystevenshospice.co.uk/event/duck-race-2018 or from event sponsors Canalside Tackle.

Amanda Bowen, deputy head of fundraising and lottery at the hospice, said: "It's events like this that make such a difference to our patients and it will be a spectacular community event which makes it even more special.

"We're so grateful to The Tenth Lock and Canalside Tackle for making it possible, and we can't wait to see people lining the banks of the canal cheering their ducks home to victory.”

Pub manager, Chere Griffin, added: “Last year we had great fun and raised loads of money for the brilliant work of the hospice and the families they support.

"Soon after we had a meeting to make sure it would happen again this year and we can't wait to see it."

Alongside the duck race, the pub will also host free family fun day, with special guests Ian Hamilton - a former West Bromwich Albion midfielder - and Baggie Bird.

There will also be an animal man, ice cream, a barbecue, live music, children's characters and an outdoor real ale and gin bar.
