A CHARITY football tournament has raised £10,000 for Sedgley sight loss charity Beacon.

The mammoth amount was raised during last season's J.W. Hunt Cup competition.

During the annual tournament, 32 teams battled it out over four rounds - resulting in Atherstone Town F.C taking home the trophy.

Since 1926, the tournament has raised more than £340,000 for Beacon and this year's cheque was handed over on Monday by J.W. Hunt Cup president and lifetime supporter of the charity, Alex Hamil.

Mr Hamil said: “This year’s tournament was another huge success and it’s great to see such strong community support for the competition.

"It is a privilege to hand over this cheque to Beacon. We have been supporting the charity for over 90 years and since my time I have seen the huge difference they make to the lives of those living with sight loss.

"I am already looking forward to the next season and hope to be back here again next year handing over another cheque.”

Beacon's CEO, Arwyn Jones, added: “The J.W. Hunt Cup has supported us over many decades. We rely on the generosity of the local community through initiatives like this. I would like to thank everyone on the behalf of Beacon for their kind donations.

"As well as raising funds the cup is helping increase awareness and helps shine a light on our vital work.”
