A WOLLASTON couple who went through the heartbreak of having a stillborn baby have raised £25,785 to help Russells Hall Hospital support grieving parents.

Hannah Swancott had to give birth to Luna surrounded by happy families and crying newborns in June - although she knew that her daughter would be stillborn.

Not wanting other couples to experience the same at such a devastating time, Hannah and her husband Quinn, who are both 29, decided to help the hospital raise £50,000 to build a bereavement suite, which will be soundproofed and furnished with home comforts to allow families spend time adjusting to the death of their baby.

"It was something Quinn and I knew we wanted to help with," said Hannah.

"We pledged to do everything we could to help them. That is when we started planning Luna’s Legacy event, with a goal to help them achieve as much of their target as we could."

The couple held a ‘fun-raising’ evening at The Fox Inn on Bridgnorth Road, Stourton, on Saturday (August 11).

They pulled in the pounds with a raffle and auction, which saw an array of items and experiences - including a four-night stay in Marbella, a diamond ring and a trip to Disneyland Paris - go under the hammer.

Karen Phillips, fundraising manager for the Dudley Group NHS Charity, described the Swancotts as "an amazing couple", adding: "This is a phenomenal amount to have raised in such a short amount of time. We are so grateful for the incredible way they have got behind this campaign."

Hannah said it "means the world" to have raised so much, adding: "Losing Luna has been the hardest thing we have ever had to deal with, but we are determined to turn our grief into something positive and make sure we make a real difference to families in the future and leave a legacy in Luna’s name.

"We are definitely not going to stop there. We would like to raise as much as we can. "If we can get another £20,000 in Luna’s memory that would be amazing. We will be planning more events for sure."
