THE University of Wolverhampton is gearing up to take thousands of calls for clearing on A-level results day tomorrow (Thursday).

Hundreds of call takers will be on hand to answer queries to the university’s hotline number 01902 51 8585.

For the first time, applicants will also be able to use a chatbot to get their enquiry underway via Facebook. They will be able to engage with the bot, called Wolfie, about the course they are interested in and receive a call back from an expert.

The university will also be hosting a Facebook Live broadcast from its call centre to explain the clearing process, interview admissions experts and answer any queries.

There will also be a chance to look around the university’s facilities at its next open day on Saturday August 18.

The Wolverhampton, Walsall and Telford Campuses will be open for visitors from 9.30am to 3pm with lecturers, admissions and finance experts on hand to provide advice and support.

James Whitehouse, deputy head of admissions, said: “The main piece of advice to everyone receiving their results is not to panic – there are still places available on a range of courses at the university.

“Clearing offers degree applicants an alternative route to enrol on a university course, it also acts as a safety net for those receiving exam results.

"It may be that they didn’t get the grades required for their original offer to be confirmed, or it might be that they have had a change of mind and wish to apply for an alternative course or institution.

"It’s also used by people who may not have considered applying until now and are looking to try and secure a place in time for September.

“We have hundreds of experts ready to take calls to our clearing hotline 01902 51 8585, and we will also be calling back people who have registered for a call via our website.

"Applicants can also get in touch with their queries via social media or the new chatbot.”
