Oxzide at next stage of $1m competition

11:46am Wednesday 2nd January 2008

ROCKERS Oxzide are getting set for the latest step in their quest for a $1m recording deal.

The five-piece band, who hail from Stourbridge and Dudley, have won through to the city finals of the Bodog Battle for unsigned artists.

The competition aims to find the best new artists from Europe and North America by offering the huge recording and marketing contract as top prize for the winners.

Oxzide will be going head to head against nine other acts from the West Midlands in the next round of the event at The Carling Academy, Birmingham on Thursday January 17.

If successful, Oxzide will scoop a place in the competition's regional final, set to take place in Manchester next month with the chance of a trip to the US to perform in the world wide finals on offer for the winners.

Oxide guitarist Steve Holdnall said: "It's a big step for us, there will be stiff competition from some very good bands and we are pleased to have got this far, it's unbelievable.

"Everyone is excited about playing at the Academy, which is one of our favourite venues."

Tickets for the Academy show are available from the band, who are also organising free transport to the venue from Dudley and Stourbridge.
