AROUND 35 firefighters battled a severe blaze at a derelict building in the early hours of the morning (Thursday, July 13).

The huge fire broke out at a two-storey building off Sedgley Road West in Tipton.

West Midlands Fire Service rushed to the scene just after 2.20am sending out seven fire engines.

A crew of around 35 firefighters from several Black Country and Birmingham fire stations were called out, using four main jets to extinguish the fire.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: “The incident was scaled down at around 3.40am as progress continued to be made.

“The fire was confirmed to be out at 6.10am.

"We left the scene at 8.50am, but the site will be revisited throughout the day to check for hotspots”.
