DINNERLADIES in three Dudley schools are celebrating after achieving a top award for serving healthy food to its children.

Working in partnership together Dudley PCT and Dudley Council have been trying to promote healthier lifestyles for school children throughout the borough.

One initiative being run by the team is the Dudley Food for Health Awards, with the highest being the Platinum Award - which recognises outstanding achievement in the promotion of healthy food.

Roberts Primary, Wren’s Nest Primary and Kates Hill Primary have all recently achieved the highest accolade and were presented with their awards at Saltwells Education Centre.

In order to achieve the award, the three schools had to develop and implement a successful food policy, have a trained facilitator delivering ‘Get Cooking’ workshops and already hold a prestigious gold award.

Patricia Bussell, Dudley PCT Food and Nutrition Programme Manager, said:” An organisation achieving the Food for Health Platinum Award demonstrates that promoting healthy eating requires a holistic approach; not only the provision of healthy menu options, by raising awareness and understanding of healthy eating.”
