A DUDLEY asylum seeker who used identification documents belonging to a friend to get a job in a town centre store where she stole from the till has been jailed for 18 months.

Zimbabwean national Nency Demanyundo came to the United Kingdom in 2003 with a condition of entry that she could not apply for employment.

However the 33-year-old used papers she took from a friend from her home country and successfully applied for work at Wilkinsons - just days after being released from prison for theft.

Mark Rees told Wolverhampton Crown Court Demanyundo, who used to live in Wren’s Nest Road, stole £228 in cash from the store as well as duplicating refund transactions and pocketing the extra cash.

The defendant, now of no fixed address, admitted possessing false identification documents, fraud and two charges of theft.

As he sentenced Demanyundo Recorder Alan Mainds told her prison was the only option.

Wilbert Harris defending said the defendant stole the money because she was “desperate” to send money back to Zimbabwe for her family.
