Link opens a new chapter

WORK is underway on the borough’s second library link, which is due to open next week.

With one Library Link successfully up and running in Dudley Wood, work is being carried out on Woodside Library Link which will open at the new children’s centre at Highgate Primary School.

It will open shortly after the beginning of the new school term on Monday September 8, following the closure of Woodside Library on Stourbridge Road, which shuts its doors on Saturday September 6.

The new library link will offer bright, modern facilities and access to all library services including over 1,500 books.

There will also be regular activities for children and adults as well as the option to search online catalogues to reserve items from other libraries and have them delivered to the link. There will be a personal service from library staff for ten hours each week.

It will be the second library to introduce self service facilities after proving a hit with borrowers at the Dudley Wood link.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “The opening of the second library link follows the successful opening of the service at Dudley Wood and will offer the same flexible service.

“We have received many positive comments about this new service and I hope this will be mirrored in the Woodside area when the new link opens there.

“It will be open during the children’s centre opening times and will form part of a key facility in the local community as it’s only a few minutes walk from the existing library on Stourbridge Road. It’s definitely worth a visit and as with all libraries will offer free facilities and many top reads.

“The library service, children’s centre and school will work closely to ensure they meet the needs of the local community.”
