Vikings brought to life

CHILDREN at a Dudley primary school swapped their uniforms for linen tunics for the day as they turned into little Vikings.

Year 3 pupils at Milking Bank Primary School were visited by the children’s education company Timezone, who entertained the children with living history activities.

The Viking Day was organised by year three teachers Tom Garner and Emily Jeffries in order to give the children an introduction to the Viking people and develop their understanding of invaders and settlers.

During the action packed day, the youngsters were able to feel how it was to live as a Viking by dressing in authentic costumes, as well as spending part of the day in a Viking roundhouse, surrounded by hundreds of artefacts.

Fun activities ranged from making flour to making bracelets.

Mr Garner, said:” History days like this are an important part of our school curriculum as it brings the topic alive.

“It is also an effective way to introduce a topic which is so different to their everyday lives.”
