HALESOWEN Town boss Morell Maison’s search for new signings to bolster his promotion-pushing squad has seen him table an approach for Bromsgrove Rovers star Graham Deakin.

The former Walsall trainee has been earning rave reviews at the Victoria Ground in BGB Midlands Division One and Maison is keen to lure him to the Grove.

A seven-day approach was put in for the young midfielder by Halesowen officials over the weekend.

Maison admitted that he was after at least two other new faces by the time the transfer window shuts on March 31 if not before Saturday’s BGB Premier Division trip to Yate Town (3pm kick-off).

The manager said: “Graham’s a good player, who I’ve been aware of for a while and I think he would add some quality to our side.

“We are definitely looking to add to the squad before the window closes on March 31, if not this Saturday.

“There is no doubt in my mind that I need a central defender, central midfielder and a striker to maintain our challenge as well as to cover for those we have out injured.”

Halesowen remain in the promotion mix following a 3-2 win over Hitchin Town at the Grove on Saturday.

The Yeltz found themselves 2-0 down at the break but a brace from Aaron Cornwall as well as a debut goal from 17-year-old winger Patrick Daval secured all three points.

Maison has been blown away by Daval’s impact since he signed for the club last week.

He said: “This boy has got something and is somebody we are keen to hold on to.

“I know Blackburn Rovers have been sniffing around and that Manchester United are keen to come and have a look at him.

“He’s only just turned 17 but he’s got good feet, pace and balance and can get past people.

“He’s definitely one for the future and somebody we are keen to wrap up in cotton wool.”

The Yeltz followed the impressive comeback with a 3-0 defeat at Cambridge City.

Maison was without the services of a host of regulars due to injury and illness.

He added: “I think Monday was a bridge too far for us with all the players we had missing.

“It was just unfortunate that it coincided with us playing one of the league’s better side’s plus some of our consistent performers had a bad day at the office.

“Hopefully we will have a few back for the weekend and the trip to Yate.”

The manager is hopeful of having defender Dennis Pearce (illness), winger Daryl Taylor (hamstring) and striker Justin Rowe (hamstring) available.

The game is set to come too soon for Gary Choi (hamstring) and Carl Paul (shoulder).

Meanwhile, Darren Caskey and Davion Hamilton are set to sit out the remainder of the season with knee and hamstring injuries respectively.

Despite of the current injury crisis, Maison remains upbeat about the club’s promotion aspirations.

He said: “It’s going to be a dogfight right up until the end of the season.

“The championship and the play-off spots are still up for grabs and there are six or seven teams fighting to be in there and we are one of them.

“What is in our favour is that we have a good spirit in the camp and we just don’t know when we are beaten.”
