DUDLEY has been chosen as one of three areas in the West Midlands for a pilot study into a new method of training for health professionals who give advice and support to breastfeeding mums.
Health Behaviour Research Ltd used research carried out at Coventry University to produce an online training toolkit for those working with breastfeeding mums.
CUBA (Coventry University Breastfeeding Assessment) is an online multiple choice questionnaire addressing all key topics required by UNICEF’s Baby Friendly Initiative training standards to successful breastfeeding, including video clips and photograph based questions for more realistic scenarios.
Once it has been filled in instant individual feedback is given to the healthcare practitioner, along with recommendations for further study and areas to improve.
CUBA is set to be piloted by maternity, community and children’s services in Dudley, Walsall and Solihull in a joint funded initiative by the Department of Health West Midlands and NHS West Midlands.
