CHILDREN at a Dudley primary school have turned into green-fingered gardeners after winning a greenhouse and solar powered heating system.
Jessons CE Primary was one of only 50 primary schools from across the country to win the gardening equipment in a Little Green Fingers competition run by npower.
Following the delivery of the greenhouse, the project has rapidly bloomed, with the youngsters developing their own vegetable patch.
A gardening club for Year 3 has also been set up by school caretaker Tony Hill, who is a keen gardener himself, and staff and parents have been donating equipment, seeds and plants to help the project grow.
But pupils from every class have been helping, joining in with growing potatoes, runner beans, pumpkins, beetroot, peppers, strawberries, courgettes, broccoli and tomatoes.
The youngsters are also able to find out more about solar energy and the greenhouse is providing a great opportunity to introduce them to sustainable energy sources.
