A DUDLEY primary school has been awarded £5,000 in recognition of its efforts to promote healthy eating.

Wren’s Nest Primary School was awarded the cash in the School Food Trust’s School of the Month competition.

Staff at the school have worked hard to ensure their meal service is as enjoyable as possible and have bought a new salad bar and a jacket potato machine following requests from pupils.

And round tables, flowers and serviettes were all bought to help the children relax and talk with their friends over dinner.

The uptake of school meals at the Wren’s Nest Road school is now higher than any other school in Dudley.

Headteacher Ruth Wylie said: "We were thrilled to win the School Food Trust School of the Month award.

“The award recognises the hardwork and energy that all the staff and children have given to developing our lunchtimes.”

She added: “We are proud of our dining room, school dinners and the whole lunchtime experience at Wren’s Nest and we would be delighted to invite anyone to come and join us for lunch to celebrate our award.”

The School of the Month competition is a new initiative set up by the School Food Trust to recognise excellence and innovation in the area of school food. It allows all the schools that are signed up to the School Food Trust’s Million Meals campaign the chance to win £5,000 every month.
