New call to save historic trough

A DUDLEY councillor is calling on the council to help protect a historic horse trough in her ward.

Brockmoor and Pensnett councillor Judy Foster made calls last November for the stone water trough in Pensnett High Street to be re-sited in order to preserve its history.

Judy contacted the Black Country Living Museum in the hope they would be able to take it in. But because it was damaged by a vehicle some time ago, museum bosses replied they couldn’t have it.

The trough, which can be found near the entrance of St Mark’s Primary School, was donated in the early 1900s by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals to improve the well being of the many horses used to pull carts in the area.

Now Judy is calling on the council to step in.

She said: “We still need to preserve it. I am going to be speaking to the council to see what we can do to save this piece of Pensnett history. We need to protect it from further damage.”
