Dudley man banned from entering local shop

A DUDLEY man has been banned from entering his local shop for two years after he armed himself with a kitchen knife during an argument with the owner.

Recorder Robert Potter told 23-year-old Stephen Smith, of Corporation Road, it was clear he had lost his temper with the man, his former landlord, but it was to his credit he quickly "came to his senses."

He told Smith: "You pre-armed yourself with that knife and you took it with you to a dangerous situation but you then realised how foolish you had been."

Smith had the six inch knife hidden in a trouser pocket, but it fell to the floor during the row with the shop owner in Corporation Road, Julian Elcock prosecuting told Wolverhampton Crown Court the two men had argued over a bike and Smith became abusive and aggressive.

Smith, who admitted possessing an offensive weapon, left the scene only to return with the knife and after his arrest he told police: "I was going to take it back. I'm sorry."

He was also given a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years and placed under supervision for a year.
