WEST Midlands Ambulance Service are highlighting the importance of having a carbon monoxide alarm, after one saved the lives of two Dudley residents.
An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, an Incident Support Officer and two vehicles from the Trusts specialist Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were sent to the scene - after a carbon monoxide alarm alerted the homeowners.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The man and women in the house were alerted to carbon monoxide being in the air by the alarm.
The paramedics from the HART team used monitoring equipment to establish that there were potentially harmful levels of the gas in the air. Had they not been alerted by the alarm there could well have been more serious or potentially fatal consequences.
"The pair were assessed at the scene. They had breathed in sufficient quantities of carbon monoxide that they required hospital treatment and were taken to Russells Hall Hospital.
"The property was handed over to the fire service for further investigation.
"We would urge people to consider whether they require a carbon monoxide monitor and if they do, to get one - it could be a life saver."
