POLICE in Netherton are going to do a wheely good job patrolling the area more effectively thanks to funding from local councillors.

The Netherton and Saltwells neighbourhood policing team can now tackle crime on two wheels after new bicycles and kit was purchased from the money donated from Central Dudley Area Committee.

Members agreed to give a capital grant of £3,048 to the team, which has been put to good use purchasing cycle uniforms for four Pc's and four PCSO's.

Acting Sergeant Rob Dalton said: “We often get reports of off-road bikes causing a nuisance. The bikes will enable us to quickly reach and patrol areas normally inaccessible by car, such as parks and grassland, where we get reports of anti-social behaviour.

Councillors Bryan Cotterill and Lynda Coulter organised the funding for the team from the Netherton, Woodside and St Andrews ward and the Quarry Bank and Dudley ward.

Bryan said: “We are pleased to make this contribution to the police, which will allow them to respond more quickly to our hotspots of anti-social behaviour.”
