GREEN fingered students at a Lower Gornal school planted trees as part of a world record attempt.
Pupils at Ellowes Hall Sports College joined in with the BBC Breathing Spaces 'Tree O' Clock' challenge, to set a new Guinness World Record for the amount of trees planted in an hour across the country.
Thirty native trees were donated to the Stickley Lane school by the Woodland Trust and Year 11 youngsters planted them in various locations around the school site, between 11am and noon on Saturday, December 5.
And despite the grounds being waterlogged, the pupils succeeded in digging holes and planting all 30 trees in 49 minutes.
