POLICE have sealed off and evacuated Kates Hill Primary School as sniffer dogs are brought in following a security alert.

Peel Street remains sealed off with police tape following the emergency 999 call from the school just after 9am, after two men were seen acting suspiciously near the school.

All the pupils and staff were evacuated from the building to the nearby Salvation Army building, as police carry out a thorough search of the building and surrounding area.

A West Midlands Police spokesman, said: "The school has got a pre prepared emergency plan and all went across to the Salvation Army premises, while police search with sniffer dogs.

"At the moment nothing untoward has been found, but we are treating this seriously and our operation is ongoing."

Motorists are being advised Peel Street is closed both ways and Owen Street and Dixon's Green Road are also affected because of the ongoing police incident.

A spokesman for Dudley Council confirmed the school was closed and said: "Staff at the school and the council are liaising with the police in relation to regaining access to the building."
