NOMINATIONS have poured in for the Mayor's Civic Awards as residents put forward their unsung heroes for recognition.
Dudley Council has received 81 nominations from members of the public who were nominating in four different categories.
Each category is named after the borough's greats - the Duncan Edwards award for sport, the Cedric Hardwicke award for arts, the Frank Foley award for community spirit and the Thomas Attwood award for education.
The nominations have now closed and judges will be choosing a winner and runner-up in each category later this week.
Councillor Pat Martin, Mayor of Dudley, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response to the Mayor’s Civic Awards this year, the difficult thing now is choosing a winner.
“The number of nominations shows there are a huge number of people who go above and beyond in a variety of ways, to make this borough a wonderful place to live, work and visit.”
There will also be a fifth trophy up for grabs, the Mayor’s Award, which will be decided by a public vote. Councillor Pat Martin, the borough’s first citizen, will choose four people she feels have stood out to her on her civic engagements this year.
The public will then have the chance to vote on-line for the winner. Nominations cannot be put forward for this particular award. A judging panel will decide the winners of the other four categories.
The winners will be presented with their exclusive glass trophies at a civic reception, at Dudley Council House, in March.
