EYEWITNESSES have described the moment English Defence League protestors were arrested by police after a day of protests.

One man said West Midlands Police stormed the rooftop of the disused factory in Hall Street by smashing through the roof this afternoon.

EDL protestors had been on the roof top since 11pm last night with flags and a PA system as they played EDL rally chants and Islamic prayer calls over the loud speakers.

The officers, who were thought to be armed with taser guns, removed the two males from the disused premises at around 3.30pm this afternoon.

The two men, aged 39 and 28, who it is believed broke into the premises last night, are currently helping police with their inquiries.

A further eight people have been arrested for disorder offences after violence broke out in the town centre and in the bus station. Police officers were also attacked with brick missiles during the incident.

The arrested people are believed to be from the EDL and the opposition groups.

Police have confirmed a strong police presence will continue to remain overnight following the last 24 hour event. Investigations will also continue.
