HIMLEY CC slipped to a fourth successive defeat and into the Birmingham Premier League relegation zone with an agonising one run loss at Walmley.

It has been a season of near misses for the Stourbridge Road side but the previous disappointments were nothing compared to Saturday, as Jamie Lunn was trapped leg before by Marc Russell with the win just two runs away.

It followed a devastating spell of 9-60 from Hamza Nadeem which had ripped through the Himley side as they chased Walmley’s total of 135.

TP Singh (42) and Daniel Bassett (17) were the only Himley men to reach double figures in the top order and the innings contained five ducks as Nadeem ran riot.

Andrew Mackelworth struck a defiant, unbeaten 49 as the visitors edged near the target but it was ultimately all in vain.

Earlier, Singh had taken 5-14 to rip through Walmley’s lower order and leave Himley with a gettable total. Chris Booth (37) was top scorer for the hosts.
