A DYNAMIC Dudley councillor is getting set to take on one of his most ambitious charity challenges yet.

Councillor Steve Waltho will attempt an arduous solo walk across the entire North Western Fells in the Lake District to help raise cash for causes close to his heart.

The energetic 55-year-old hopes to scale a whopping 28 peaks in three days - starting on Tuesday, September 14.

No stranger to mountainous charity challenges, the St Thomas’s ward councillor has raised thousands of pounds for an array of worthy causes over the last 30 years by taking on adventurous treks, runs and bike rides.

His latest outing, however, promises to push his physical endurance to the limit.

Steve, said: “I’ll be covering 45 miles across remote countryside including a massive 18,000 feet of actual ascent.

“It’s difficult terrain and the weather’s always unpredictable in the hills too, so it’s going to be tough.”

The superfit father-of-two, whose sons James and Joe have joined him on some of his recent charity adventures, hopes to raise around £2,000 in sponsorship - which will be donated to Dudley’s Action Heart charity, Lupus West Midlands,The Orchard Partnership in Lye, Dudley Foodbank, Acorns Hospice and Leukaemia Care in memory of his mother-in-law who died from the illness last year.
