NEIL Shillingford says his Dudley Kingswinford side were left “frustrated” despite mauling Banbury 58-0.

The Heathbrook outfit ran in nine tries, blanked out the opposition and picked up a bonus point but the joint head coach believes the scoreline should have been bigger.

And the subject of his and the players’ ire was referee Richard Hackett, who Shillingford claims failed to allow the game to flow.

Hackett was a late replacement after the original referee was involved in a car crash on the way to the ground and infuriated the home crowd as he penalised DK 20 times.

Shillingford said: “It was a bit strange because although we won well the lads came off the pitch quite frustrated.

“It became clear from quite early on the referee was not going to let the game flow.

“The lads felt they could have scored a lot more points.

“I suppose from our point of view we achieved everything we set out to do.

“We got the bonus point and some of the things we worked on during the week came off.

“We must not be too harsh on the referee as without him we wouldn’t have had a game but if it had been a closer game it may have created problems.”

The result maintained DK’s 100 per cent record and extended their lead at the top of Midlands One West to three points.

There was also a welcome return for club skipper Ben Connett and Shillingford is delighted with the options he now has in the second row.

He said: “Ben had a very good game. We probably have about five or six different second row partnerships we can deploy now.

“It’s a headache but it’s a nice problem to have.”

This Saturday sees DK travel to Camp Hill, who scored something of a surprise victory of their own at Lichfield last weekend.

Shillingford added: “We face Lichfield after Camp Hill and were expecting them to be the toughest of this stretch, so we may have to revise that.

“It’s never easy playing Camp Hill on their own ground. We put a fair few points on them last term but they keep coming at you.

“They always manage to keep their side together and it will be a test for us.”
